I am delighted to share with you the latest updates from the Grades 4 and 5 Intensive English classroom, which have made this final semester an exciting and transformative period for our students. Embracing the school-wide theme of “Sharing the Planet,” our young learners approached the topic with a wealth of curiosity and ideas. In the Intensive English classroom, we dedicated our efforts to enhancing the students’ vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, all centred around the critical subject of global issues.
Throughout the semester, we delved into various texts, captivating videos, and eye-opening documentaries. The students were truly engaged, exploring the pressing issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. They even showcased their understanding through a short performance. Following this exploration, the students embarked on their own lines of inquiry, creating personal projects that connected deeply with the overarching theme. Witnessing their enthusiasm firsthand, I was thrilled to observe their acquisition of new skills, such as 3D design, effective time management, and the ability to evaluate feedback constructively.
Moreover, the students were given the opportunity to partake in a special design project: crafting pinwheels from recycled materials. This engaging activity not only fostered creativity but also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility and sustainability.
In the grade 7 Intensive English classroom, our focus centred on the development and expansion of vocabulary, grammar knowledge, and writing skills. Additionally, we encouraged our students to enhance their communication and collaboration abilities with their peers. I am proud to share that our dedicated learners have made considerable strides in all areas and are steadily progressing toward their ultimate goal of improving their English communication and comprehension skills.
Lastly, I want to showcase the vibrant and flourishing state of our class balcony vegetable garden, mirroring the growth and achievements of our wonderful students. Just like the blossoming plants, our young learners continue to thrive, both academically and personally.
Ms. Leigh
