Welcome to Ljubljana International School’s (LIS) Boarding Section where confidence, motivation, independence, and excitement are just a few of the elements that students will encounter.
What is LIS Boarding?
If you are a boarding student, your dorm is more than just an area where you study and sleep – it is genuinely your home away from home, a place to hang out with classmates and friends, an area to play, watch movies or sporting events on the living room’s large screen TV, focus hard during study hours, chat with teachers, and/or just enjoy the moment.
Students will also experience the LIS lifestyle with a roommate. Living with another student is a particularly valuable experience as it teaches students about new cultures, how to live respectfully and harmoniously with someone else, and most importantly, it offers the potential for lasting bonds and lifelong friendships. The majority of our students express that living with other students is the favorite part of boarding school life!
No student can truly achieve what they are ultimately capable of in a boarding school or elsewhere, without an appropriate amount of support, care, and direction. The LIS boarding section is a small, intimate, and personal boarding establishment with a very cozy and friendly atmosphere.
Meals available 5 times per day
The breakfast menu alternates between offerings such as eggs and bacon, an assortment of croissants and pastries, cereal or porridge, fruit and yogurt, toast and breakfast potatoes.
Lunch and dinner include a first and second course of meat or fish, a variety of vegetables and salads, and fresh fruit. During the weekends, a self-serve brunch buffet is available in the Dining Hall. Initially, cereal, and other pastries, toast and toppings, yogurt, fruit, juice, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are on offer. Late morning, this morphs into eggs, bacon, cheese, pasta, salad fixings, along with various other vegetable and meat dishes. A rich dinner menu is always on offer in the Dining Hall. Friday nights are theme nights, a most popular occasion with our boarding students!
Weekend Activities
Once classes end on Fridays, there is a lot more for residents to do than just staying at home. On weekends, LIS offers a wide range of trips, activities, and other events organized specifically for our student boarders. Some of the most popular weekend activities other than studying, include:
- Home and local sporting events;
- Hikes, skiing, sporting adventures, and nature walks;
- Visits to movie theaters, local shopping malls, and restaurants;
- Excursions to downtown Ljubljana and to other sightseeing areas in Slovenia;
- Cultural day trips to cities of neighboring countries such as Italy, Austria, and Croatia;
- Outings to theatres, concerts, museums, sporting events, and to the seaside;
- Cooking, cookie baking, card games, and movie nights;
