As a very active person myself, I wanted to be part of an after-school club involving sports. With the help of PE teacher, Mr. Ovi, we came up with the Sports Club for grades 1-3, which is now going strong for the fourth quarter this school year.
Our focus is on having fun, being active, and learning new skills. On a nice sunny day, we like to take students on a hike in the woods. One time a student found a stick that looked like javelin, and we taught them how to throw it correctly. Searching for an appropriate stick and “javelin” throw is now their favorite activity to do in the woods. Whenever we are not on a hike, we stay in the gym. There we play different games such as a mouse and a cat or dodgeball. We also practice our throwing and kicking skills, as well as coordination and speed.
In addition to the physical benefits of exercise, participating in a Sports Club can also have positive effects on mental health and well-being as most of the times we spend this time in the nature. Exercise is known to reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood, and improve cognitive function.
