Science Teacher (MYP & DP) — Ljubljana International School
Ljubljana International School (LIS) is seeking a qualified and experienced Science Teacher to deliver the MYP Sciences (Years 1–5) and DP Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics — please specify subject/level preference) programmes. The successful candidate will join a growing IB continuum school and contribute to curriculum development, assessment design, and the academic culture of the science department.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the MYP Sciences framework (four assessment criteria: Knowing and Understanding, Inquiring and Designing, Processing and Evaluating, Reflecting on the Impacts of Science) and the relevant DP Sciences guide(s). Design formative and summative assessments using accurate IB command terms and criterion-referenced rubrics. Support students through the DP Internal Assessment (individual investigation) process, including ethical review, data collection guidance, and lab safety protocols. Contribute to vertical articulation of the science curriculum across MYP and DP, ensuring conceptual coherence and skills progression (e.g., ATL skills, scientific inquiry cycle). Participate in moderation and standardisation of internal assessment. Engage with the IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) framework, including differentiation and inclusive education practices. Maintain accurate records via the school's learning management/reporting systems and communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. Contribute to co-curricular life of the school (clubs, trips, science fairs, CAS-linked initiatives where relevant). Participate in professional development, including IB-recognised workshops.
Bachelor's Degree:
Bachelor's degree (minimum) in a relevant science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Environmental Systems and Societies); Master's degree preferred. Teaching qualification/certification recognised in home country or equivalent. Minimum 2–3 years of teaching experience in secondary science. Prior experience teaching within the IB MYP and/or DP framework strongly preferred; familiarity with IB philosophy and pedagogy required. Fluent English (working language of instruction); additional languages an asset. Strong laboratory management and safety practice.
Experience:
IB workshop training (Category 1 or equivalent) in MYP Sciences and/or DP Sciences. Experience supervising DP Internal Assessments and/or Extended Essays in a science subject. Experience with cross-curricular or transdisciplinary planning (e.g., collaboration with Design, Mathematics, or Individuals and Societies). Experience in a multilingual/international school setting.
